Based on TV’s spiciest cowgirl, Beth’s Bourbon Apple Crisp is sweet with a bold punch of bourbon. Serve with a scoop of ice cream for the perfect treat! It’s so delicious … almost as good as that picture of RIP that just hit my feed lol.
Yellowstone Themed Recipes
Earlier this year I became obsessed with the show Yellowstone. As someone who rarely watches TV, getting this invested into a series is super rare for me! I owe a lot of it to the characters, one of whom is the leading lady Beth Dutton. Whether you love her or hate her (lol), she is bold, badass and the queen of Yellowstone.
We decided to come up with a Yellowstone Menu in honour of the long awaited return of season 4, and so something to celebrate Beth (and her love of bourbon) felt essential. Each weekend, I will be sharing a new “Yellowstone Themed” recipe. Trust me they are SO GOOD.
Homemade Bourbon Caramel Sauce
If you have ever wanted to take a dessert to the next level I have three words for you: Bourbon Caramel Sauce. While your apple crisp is baking, (or whatever dessert you are whipping up) you can easily whisk together a homemade caramel sauce over the stove. The bourbon is decently front and centre in this recipe, so feel free to make a batch without it for any kiddos (replace with water or cream)! This would taste delicious over ice cream or recipes like this Upside-Down Pear Gingerbread Cake or drizzled over an Apple Galette.
Beth’s Bourbon Apple Crisp
This Bourbon Apple Crisp is sweet with a bold punch of bourbon. Serve with a dollop of iced cream for the perfect treat!
Ingredients
Apple Crisp
- 5 cups 1/2″ diced peeled apples* about 4-6 apples
- 1 cup old fashioned rolled oats gluten free
- 1/2 cup flour gluten free
- 1/2 cup lightly packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup melted butter divided
Beth’s Bourbon Sauce
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1/2 cup lightly packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup bourbon
- 1/2 cup cream or coconut cream
- pinch salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 F and lightly grease 6 oven proof ramekins or a 8×8” pan. Place the diced apples in a medium bowl and stir in 1 tablespoon of melted butter.
-
In a large bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Mix to combine. Stir in the remaining melted butter to combine.
-
Stir 1/4 cup of the oat mixture into the apples and stir to combine. Transfer the apples to the baking dish(es) and sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples.
-
Bake until the top is golden brown, around 1 hour.
-
While the crisp is baking make the Bourbon Sauce. In a small saucepan over low heat combine the butter and flour and whisk together; cook for 1 minute. Add the brown sugar, bourbon, cream and salt; simmer and whisk until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce has slightly thickened, 2-3 minutes. Remove from the heat and whisk in the vanilla.
-
Serve slightly warm with a scoop of vanilla ‘nice cream’ or ice cream and a drizzle of Beth’s Bourbon Sauce.
